The Wi.250 (PN Wi.232FHSS-250-R) LONG RANGE embedded module combines a state-of-the art low power wireless transceiver with a powerful multipoint-to-multipoint protocol controller to form a complete wireless communication solution. With a simple SERIAL UART interface to any HOST microcontroller, a 132.5dB link budget, and very low power operation modes, the Wi.250 module is excellent for Industrial Remote Monitoring, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), RFID, medical, gas and oil sensing and controls, building and machine automation, home automation, security, and other wire replacement applications. Ranges from 5 miles (+) line of sight and long battery life. The Wi.232FHSS-250-R features the new Analog Devices ADF 7020 transceiver chip with is leading edge technology.

The module operates as a transparent wire replacement solution; it can also operate in a peer-to-peer networked mode that supports node addressing and assured delivery. The module interface is designed to be totally transparent to the user host microcontroller. Data is validated using an internally generated CRC-16 and encoded using a proprietary Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) algorithm. Multiple modules can operate on the same channel because of the built-in carrier-sense-multiple-access (CSMA) protocol. Other key features of the Wi.250.

· Four variable power steps (+8,+13,+18,+23.5dBm)
· Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
· User Defined and Extended automatic addressing
· Digital RSSI registers
· Small footprint 1.2" x1.2"x .20"
· FCC certified versions available

A wide range of data rates can be supported, allowing the designer to tune the module's performance to meet the application's throughput and range requirements. The RF data rate is programmed to optimally match the UART data rate, selectable from 2.4 to 115.2 kbit/second. The maximum RF data rate is 152.34kbit/second.

The Wi.250 module employs frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) modulation. The module uses 32 channels with 26 separate hopping channels in a hopping table, and the designer can program the module to use one of six hopping sequences. These techniques allow the Wi.250 module to operate in co-located networks without interference. The Wi.250 is a very cost effective solution for any wireless application where range, cost, size, and power consumption are key design issues. The module protocol is running on a very efficient and cost effective Silicon Labs C8051F311 8-bit microcontroller that highlights the highly efficient Radiotronix spread spectrum (FHSS) RF protocol.

A full line of FCC and standard polarity antennas are available to support the modules The Wi.250 module has a built in compatibility mode to allow it to talk interoperable with its 25mW sister, Wi.25 (PN Wi.232FHSS-25-R). Fully FCC certified modules are also available: Wi.232FHSS-250-FCC-ST-R and Wi.232FHSS-250-FCC-RA-R for fast design integration.

The development kit for this product is the RK-Wi.232FHSS-FCC-250-R which consists of 2ea Wi.232FHSS-250-FCC-ST-R evaluation modules, the Radiotronix development platform, 2ea ANT-915-06A ½ wave dipole antennas and supporting cables and software.
